Nintendo Entertainment
One of the gaming consoles I grew up with was the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was a system that was in it’s last years of circulation when I was a kid. Its successor, the Super Nintendo, was slowly on the rise.
Even with all of this I can still remember the fantastic times my brothers and I had playing the console together. Many of the games we played back then, we still own and play today. Some popular games for us were: Super Mario Bros. 3, TMNT 2 The Arcade Game, and a game called Crash and The Boys Street Challenge.
Back in those days, there was not really such a thing as “save points.” You either finish it in one go, or it finished you. To make matters worse we only rented the Nintendo system for about three days. It was always a rush to beat the game in that short period of time, like cramming for a math test, only a lot more fun.
A Brotherhood of Gaming
I remember my two older brothers Joe, and Ted playing the Ninja Turtles game, being on the final level, and getting there on the last night we would have the Nintendo that weekend. Mom had called us for dinner several times without an answer from any of us.
It must have been around the third time that my mother called she came into our room. She kindly asked us to pause the game. But we couldn’t pause, it was the last level after all. What happened next would scar the Shaw boys until their dying day, as mom flipped the switch on the console and all our precious progress was lost.
As devastated as we were, it still made for an unforgettable memory. As a matter of fact all of those games made for great memories. I love to go back and revisit them and I am glad I can do that at Flynn’s Retrocade.
